SAVE THE PLANET

Home Energy Audit Training - Sat 22nd March, 2pm-4pm @ Wood Green Library, N22

Free. For members of Residents Associations and community groups.

Sustainable Haringey's Homes Group is holding the next Home Energy AuditTraining session from 2-4pm on 22nd March 2008. The session will be held in the Community Room, second floor at Wood Green Library.

This follows a successful pilot training session which was held last year. The aim of the session is to provide participants with enough information and confidence to visit local residents' homes (eg your neighbours or other members of your organisation) and provide them with suggestions about simple energy-saving measures they can take and funding that is available. The training is non-technical and there will be lots of opportunities for questions. The idea is to help people across the borough reduce energy wastage and cut fuel bills.

The session is aimed at members of Residents' Associations and other Community Groups affiliated to Sustainable Haringey. We hope to train people to bring back the knowledge to their associations and help start a programme of home visits.

To book a place on the training session please contact: homes@sustainableharingey.org.uk or call Ruth on 07957 313 404. Numbers are limited so please book early if you're keen.

MORE GOOD IDEAS

Carmen says we can save landfill sites by giving unwanted stuff to those who need it or would really appreciate it eg a three-quarter guitar with no strings, old paint, left-over curtain material, obsolete TV, grandma’s old armchair, packets of seeds.. Don’t bin it; advertise it to residents of Hillfield Park by emailing your ad to Peter Thompson at and he will email it round our group. Or join freecyclelondon@yahoogroups.com and post it all over London: the website is groups.yahoo.com/group/FreecycleLondon.

Rahid notes: there is also a Haringey-specific group on freecycle - groups.yahoo.com/group/haringey-freecycle/, which should in some manner reduce your carbon footprint re pickup & delivery :)

Carmen has another idea: cut a piece of cardboard just smaller than the side of your radiator and wrap in Bacofoil. Slip behind the rad. The foil will reflect heat back into the house and save losing it through the wall (or alternatively buy purpose-made reflector sheets from Homebase).
